Jakarta, July 2 -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasised police's crucial role in protecting the public, especially disadvantaged groups.
Speaking at the Indonesian Police's 79th-anniversary ceremony at the National Monument (Monas) Square on July 1, Prabowo underscored that police must consistently side with the people and strive to understand their suffering.
Prabowo noted that the police play a vital role in realising Indonesia's vision of becoming a developed nation free from poverty, hunger, and injustice.
"History has shown that no country has succeeded without a strong and resilient police force", he said as cited by Indonesia's Antara news agency.
