Jakarta, Jan. 22 -- Indonesia will begin mandatory halal certification starting in October, aiming to strengthen consumer protection and enhance the country's competitiveness in the global halal supply chain. Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH) Haikal Ahmad Hasan said at the global level, halal is increasingly understood as a symbol of health, quality and a modern lifestyle that is accepted across countries and cultures. The requirement is mandated under the 2014 Halal Product Assurance Law and reinforced by Government regulation 2024 on halal product assurance.
