Jakarta, Oct. 20 -- The Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has successfully reached a dispensation agreement with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), allowing thousands of Indonesian shrimp containers to enter the US market.
The agreement was reached on October 18 (US time), following a series of intensive negotiations. This effort was prompted by the US Government's new import policy, Import Alert (IA) #99-52, which is scheduled to take effect on October 31.
The Import Alert #99-52 imposes strict surveillance on shrimp products from Indonesia, particularly those originating from Java and Lampung. Its goal is to ensure the absence of radioactive contamination, specifically Cesium 137.
