Hanoi, Aug. 29 -- The Indonesian government has summoned representatives of Meta Platforms Inc., ByteDance's TikTok, and other social media platforms, ordering them to step up content moderation amid the rapid spread of disinformation online.

Such disinformation, particularly on TikTok and Meta's Instagram, has fueled public anger and triggered protests against the government, Deputy Minister of Communications Angga Raka Prabowo said.

The government, therefore, urged the platforms to proactively moderate or remove such content - along with material related to pornography and online gambling - without waiting for an official request, he added.
