Hanoi, July 22, July 22 -- Hanoi is taking steps to position itself as a pioneering green tourism city, with a roadmap that includes a ban on single-use plastics in hotels and tourist sites starting in 2026.
This policy marks a major shift toward sustainable tourism practices, beginning with everyday items like toothbrushes, razors, plastic bags, and miniature toiletry bottles.
From 2026, all accommodation establishments and tourist destinations in the capital will be prohibited from using single-use plastic products. The city plans to expand this ban further, with a phase-out of free plastic bags in markets and convenience stores, and a full halt to the production and import of single-use and microplastic-containing items by 2031.
