Quang Ngai, May 6 -- The Management Board of the Ly Son Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the central province of Quang Ngai has successfully rescued a sea turtle entangled in a fishing net.
The animal, weighing approximately 12kg, is currently being cared for before being released back into its natural habitat, the board announced on May 5.
The green sea turtle, scientifically named Chelonia mydas, is listed as an endangered species and prioritised for protection.
Earlier that morning, while returning to Ly Son Island after a fishing trip, local fisherman Ngo Van Minh discovered the injured turtle floating on the sea surface, with its front flippers tightly wrapped in netting. Minh immediately contacted the Ly Son MPA for assistance.
