Denied by neighbours Uzbek cherry finds niche in Singapore
Tashkent, June 10 -- With less than 7-10 days left until the end of the season of mass cherry-picking in Uzbekistan, its prices in the domestic market continue seeking the bottom. This situation was mainly related to a sluggish demand by main importers, Russia and Kazakhstan. Nevertheless, news that came from Singapore may become a breath of fresh air for Uzbek farmers, as for the first time in history Uzbekistan-made cherries are set to appear on the shelves of Singapore markets.
The contract for the shipment of fresh cherries worth of $500,000 was concluded between Uz-Segang JV and Noroo Holdings Singapore Pte. Ltd in May. The papers were signed with the assistance of the Uzbek Embassy in Singapore.
