ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,251,335, issued on March 18, was assigned to ZOLL Circulation Inc. (San Jose, Calif.).

"Detecting and responding to preshivering" was invented by James Palazzolo (San Jose, Calif.), Richard A. Helkowski (Redwood City, Calif.) and Gary A. Freeman (Chelmsford, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of reducing the likelihood of shivering comprises monitoring at least one physiological characteristic in a human or animal subject to detect preshivering and acting to reduce the likelihood of shivering when preshivering is detected."
