ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,422,762, issued on Sept. 23, was assigned to XEROX Corp. (Norwalk, Conn.).

"Antimicrobial toner particles" was invented by Varun Sambhy (Pittsford, N.Y.), Eliud Robles Flores (Webster, N.Y.), Douglas Allen Gutberlet (Ontario, N.Y.) and Paul F. Sawicki (Rochester, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An antimicrobial toner particle composition is disclosed. The antimicrobial toner particle composition includes a binder resin, and an antimicrobial material in an effective antimicrobial amount comprising copper oxide. An image forming apparatus is also disclosed, capable of forming a fused antimicrobial image on a recording medium."
