ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,490,786, issued on Dec. 9, was assigned to Wilson Sporting Goods Co. (Chicago).

"Chest protector" was invented by Matthew J. Dierkes (Chicago), Krista A. Lenss (Chicago) and Shaun P. Gilday (Chicago).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A chest protector may include shoulder portions to extend over shoulders of a sport participant wearing the chest protector, a padded chest portion to extend over the chest of a sport participant wearing the chest protector, a padded torso portion and a pliable shaper extending across the padded torso portion."
