ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. 12,435,921, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to Whirlpool Corp. (Benton Harbor, Mich.).

"Refrigerator and shelving system for a refrigerator" was invented by Gowardhan Parikshit (Pune, India), Ryan Post (Coloma, Mich.), Chad Rotter (Saugatuck, Mich.) and Lalit Madhukar Suryawanshi (Pune, India).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A refrigerator shelving system includes a primary shelf, a secondary shelf, hangers, and nests. The hangers movably secure the secondary shelf to the primary shelf. The hangers also position the secondary shelf below the primary shelf.
