ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,468,090, issued on Nov. 11, was assigned to Washington University (St. Louis).

"Ultrasound sensing and imaging based on whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microresonators" was invented by Lan Yang (St. Louis), Guangming Zhao (St. Louis), Xuefeng Jiang (St. Louis) and Yihang Li (St. Louis).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Optical whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonator-based acoustic sensors, imaging systems that make use of the acoustic sensors, and methods of detecting ultrasound waves using the acoustic sensors are disclosed."

The patent was filed on Sept. 18, 2020, under Application No. 17/761,026.
