According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct Hosta plant named 'Avant Garde' of large arching mounds of broadly ovate leaves having wide bluish-green margins and khaki with olive-green centers. The variegation is also attractively displayed with numerous featherings of intermediate colors between the center the leaf margins.
