ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,445,266, issued on Oct. 14, was assigned to VIRGINIA TECH INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES INC. (Blacksburg, Va.).

"Galois extension field-based block cipher" was invented by Alan J. Michaels (Blacksburg, Va.) and Kiernan B. George (South Riding, Va.).
