ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,350,289, issued on July 8, was assigned to Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, Va.).

"Polymer agents for cardiopulmonary resuscitation" was invented by Martin J. Mangino (Richmond, Va.), Joseph Ornato (Richmond, Va.), Wanchun Tang (Richmond, Va.) and Jennifer Bradley (Richmond, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for resuscitation of the heart in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a solution comprising polyethylene glycol (PEG) having a molecular weight of 8-100 kDa is provided."
