ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,383,172, issued on Aug. 12, was assigned to ViOptix Inc. (Newark, Calif.).

"Oximeter device with replaceable probe tip" was invented by Joseph Heanue (Oakland, Calif.), Scott E. Coleridge (New York) and Sophia Elizabeth Berger (Palo Alto, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An oximeter device has a replaceable probe tip. The probe tip can be removed or detached from the probe unit and discarded. A replacement probe tip can be attached to the probe tip. The replaceable probe tip allows the probe unit to be reused many times, each time with new sterile probe tip."
