ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,491,708, issued on Dec. 9, was assigned to ViewPlus Technologies Inc. (Corvallis, Ore.).
"Method and apparatus for producing embossed images and text" was invented by John A. Gardner Jr. (Corvallis, Ore.) and Daniel Taylor Gardner (Corvallis, Ore.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An embossing device and method, which can produce traditional braille cells and crisp, well-defined, raised images of graphical subjects is disclosed. Embossing of sheet material is accomplished using punches which have embossing faces shaped to mate with recessed areas on the surface of a platen."
