ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,360,871, issued on July 15, was assigned to VIAVI Solutions Inc. (Chandler, Ariz.).

"Peripheral component interconnect board programmable link training and status state machine and state branching" was invented by Tarik Rostum (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Marc Werz (Stuttgart, Germany).
