ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,413,115, issued on Sept. 9, was assigned to Veritium Research LLC (Fort Lee, N.J.).
"Electric motor with passive and active magnetic bearings" was invented by Gino Morello (Fort Lee, N.J.) and Steven Prina (Fort Lee, N.J.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A magnetically levitated motor includes a stator, a rotor configured to rotate relative to the stator, and a passive radial magnetic bearing configured to support the rotor relative to the stator in a radial direction. An active longitudinal magnetic bearing is configured to selectively position the rotor relative to the stator in an axial direction."
