ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. 12,433,588, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to Verb Surgical (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Integrated sensors for surgical staplers" was invented by Berk Gonenc (San Jose, Calif.), Benjamin Alan Sanker (San Jose, Calif.), Jose Luis Cordoba (Malaga, Spain) and Pablo Garcia Kilroy (Menlo Park, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A surgical stapler for a surgical robotic system, the surgical stapler including a jaw coupled to a base, the jaw having a first anvil that moves relative to a second anvil between an open position and a closed position; and a force sensor operable to detect a force applied to the jaw."
