ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,317,788, issued on June 3, was assigned to VELOCIGRO INC. (Monrovia, Calif.).

"Gel-based horticultural plug" was invented by Geoffrey C. Landis (Commerce, Calif.), April Dawson (Commerce, Calif.) and Morris Gasmer (Commerce, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A gel plug comprised of a gel may be used for growth of plants. The gel may include two polysaccharide components, with a second of the two components providing increased rigidity Plants may be grown, including from seed, in the gel plug."

The patent was filed on Jan. 10, 2023, under Application No. 18/095,222.
