ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 29 -- United States Patent no. 12,207,652, issued on Jan. 28, was assigned to Vapor Technologies Inc. (Longmont, Colo.).
"Copper-based antimicrobial PVD coatings with wear indicator" was invented by Bryce Randolph Anton (Longmont, Colo.) and Nicholas Peterson (Arvada, Colo.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A bioactive coated substrate includes a base substrate, an indicator layer disposed over the base substrate, and a bioactive layer disposed on the indicator layer. Characteristically, the indicator layer has color sufficiently different from the bioactive layer to be visually perceived by a user when the bioactive layer wears away."
