ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,252,708, issued on March 18, was assigned to UNM Rainforest Innovations (Albuquerque, N.M.).

"Living mammalian cells modified with functional modular nanoparticles" was invented by Jimin Guo (Albuquerque, N.M.), C. Jeffrey Brinker (Albuquerque, N.M.), Wei Zhu (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Jacob Ongudi Agola (Albuquerque, N.M.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An encapsulated living (viable) mammalian cell, and methods of making and using that cell, are provided."

The patent was filed on Sept. 24, 2019, under Application No. 17/277,256.
