ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 29 -- United States Patent no. 12,212,551, issued on Jan. 28, was assigned to UNM RAINFOREST INNOVATIONS (Albuquerque, N.M.).

"System and methods for PUF-based authentication" was invented by James Plusquellic (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Derek Heeger (Vienna, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Authentication that leverages a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to generate bitstrings, session keys and long-lived keys (LLK)."
