ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 20 -- United States Patent no. 12,528,967, issued on Jan. 20, was assigned to University of Washington (Seattle).

"Zwitterionic copolymer coatings and related methods" was invented by Shaoyi Jiang (Seattle), Xiaojie Lin (Seattle), Jonathan Himmelfarb (Seattle) and Buddy D. Ratner (Seattle).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Zwitterionic carboxybetaine copolymers and their use in coatings to impart non-fouling and functionality to surfaces, particularly surfaces of blood-contacting medical devices."
