ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,269,764, issued on April 8, was assigned to University of Washington (Seattle).

"Hydrogels for the entrapment of bacteria" was invented by Raymond Redcorn (Seattle), Mari-Karoliina Henriikka Winkler (Seattle), Bruce Godfrey (Seattle) and David A. Stahl (Seattle).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Hydrogels for entrapment of live microorganisms and methods of their use, such as in wastewater purification, are disclosed."
