ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,355,237, issued on July 8, was assigned to University of South Carolina (Columbia, S.C.).

"Low-level communication between energy prosumers in a DC microgrid" was invented by Matthew T. Davidson (Columbia, S.C.), Michelle L. Hunt (Columbia, S.C.) and Andrea Benigni (Columbia, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to sinusoidal components representative of particular commands (VCMD) or values, or a combination thereof, superimposed on DC power lines (VDC) as a means of communication between the prosumers wherein the communication will be tailored to commands for microgrids."
