ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,447,216, issued on Oct. 21, was assigned to University of Massachusetts (Westborough, Mass.).

"Biogenic hemin-based MRI contrast agents, and compositions and methods thereof" was invented by Gang Han (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Yang Zhao (Worcester, Mass.) and Jing Peng (Tianjin, China).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention provides a novel class of MRI contrast agents based on biogenic hemin and compositions and methods of preparation and use thereof."

The patent was filed on Oct. 3, 2022, under Application No. 17/959,278.
