US Patent Issued to University of Massachusetts on July 29 for "Brown fat-selective adipokines" (Massachusetts Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,371,462, issued on July 29, was assigned to University of Massachusetts (Westborough, Mass.).

"Brown fat-selective adipokines" was invented by Yong-Xu Wang (Southborough, Mass.) and Qingbo Chen (Worcester, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Methods of treating or reducing the risk of obesity and/or obesite-related disorders, e.g., metabolic syndrome, hepatic and non-hepatic steatosis, and diabetes, using C20orf27 proteins or nucleic acids."

The patent was filed on Sept. 25, 2023, under Application No. 18/473,627.
