ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. 12,433,873, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to University of Maryland, Baltimore (Baltimore).

"Microtubule polymerization inhibitor prodrugs and methods of using the same" was invented by Joseph Kao (Silver Spring, Md.), Christopher William Ward (Baltimore) and Ramzi Khairallah (New Market, Md.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Prodrugs of colchicine, de-acetyl colchicine, colcemid, and nocodazole are provided as therapies for the treatment of diseases ameliorated by the inhibition of microtubule polymerization."

The patent was filed on April 10, 2023, under Application No. 18/298,157.
