ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,344,537, issued on July 1, was assigned to University of Kentucky Research Foundation (Lexington, Ky.).

"Method for synthesizing a hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent" was invented by Jian Shi (Lexington, Ky.), Wenqi Li (Lexington, Ky.), Jameson Hunter (Lexington, Ky.) and Yuxuan Zhang (Lexington, Ky.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for synthesizing a hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent (DES) using one or more lignin-derived compounds is provided."
