ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,296,064, issued on May 13, was assigned to University of Iowa Research Foundation (Iowa City, Iowa).

"Ultra-light weight hemostatic microspheres" was invented by Isabelle Denry (Iowa City, Iowa).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A hemostatic composition comprises a powder of a plurality of hollow or highly-porous microparticles that exhibit hemostatic properties, wherein each of the microparticles comprise a body comprising a clay material that is a crystalline hydrated form of a layered silicate."

The patent was filed on Sept. 24, 2019, under Application No. 17/276,396.
