US Patent Issued to University of Connecticut on March 18 for "Long-acting local anesthetic formulation" (Connecticut Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,251,378, issued on March 18, was assigned to University of Connecticut (Farmington, Conn.).

"Long-acting local anesthetic formulation" was invented by Rajesh V. Lalla (West Hartford, Conn.), Diane J. Burgess (Storrs, Conn.) and Tingting Li (Mansfield Center, Conn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Compositions that include a bupivacaine salt are provided. The compositions may include bupivacaine linoleate, bupivacaine linolenate or bupivacaine laurate, at least one thermosensitive polymer, and at least one mucoadhesive or dermoadhesive agent.
