ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,291,547, issued on May 6, was assigned to UNIVERSITE LAVAL (Quebec, Canada).

"Synthesis of 3-azido-3-deoxy-D-galactopyranose" was invented by Denis Giguere (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Canada), Jacob St-Gelais (Longueuil, Canada) and Vincent Denavit (Feugarolles, France).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present application provides a synthetic method for production of 3-azido-3-deoxy-D-galactopyranose. Also provided are methods of using the 3-azido-3-deoxy-D-galactopyranose in the manufacture of galactoside galectin antagonists, such as TD139 (GB0139), GB1107, GB2064, and GB1211."
