ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,421,582, issued on Sept. 23, was assigned to UDDEHOLMS AB (Hagfors, Sweden).
"Stainless steel" was invented by Magnus Tidesten (Hagfors, Sweden), Eva Sjoqvist Persson (Hagfors, Sweden) and Magnus Brannbacka (Kristinehamn, Sweden).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A plastic forming mold made from a stainless steel, having in weight % (wt. %): C 0.32-0.50, Si 0.1-1.0, Mn 0.1-0.8, Cr 11-14, Mo 1.8-2.6, V 0.35-0.70, N 0.05-0.19, optional elements, and a balance of Fe apart from impurities. The stainless steel is hardened and tempered and has a matrix comprising less than=90 vol. % martensite."
