ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 13 -- United States Patent no. 12,522,277, issued on Jan. 13, was assigned to Toyota Material Handling Inc. (Columbus, Ind.).
"Forklift steer-by-wire control system" was invented by Joseph Major (Indianapolis) and Kevin Partridge (Columbus, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A steer-by-wire control system adapted for use with a material handling vehicle such as a forklift includes a controller programmed to receive input indicative of a desired direction of travel of the material handling vehicle and to control an actuator coupled with the steered wheels of the material handling vehicle to change the direction of travel of the vehicle."
