ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,290,732, issued on May 6, was assigned to Topgolf Callaway Brands Corp. (Carlsbad, Calif.).
"System and method to identify impact locations" was invented by Mario Raposo (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Peter Ligotti (Encinitas, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A golf club comprising a golf club head having a face wall, an inertial motion unit (IMU) positioned within the body, and a transceiver in communication with the IMU, a shaft attached to the golf club head, and a grip attached to the shaft is disclosed herein. The IMU identifies an impact location with a golf ball."
