ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,296,228, issued on May 13, was assigned to Topgolf Callaway Brands Corp. (Carlsbad, Calif.).

"Use of an impact modifier in a low compression golf ball" was invented by Armando Becerra (Vista, Calif.), Carl Brown (Temecula, Calif.), David Bartels (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Vijay Chavan (Oceanside, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A golf ball with improved durability is disclosed herein. The golf ball has a core comprising a polybutadiene material and methyl methacrylate, butadiene, styrene (MBS) with a weight percentage of MBS ranging from 0.5 to 5 weight percent of the core."
