ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,539,439, issued on Feb. 3, was assigned to TITAN MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTING INC. (Memphis, Tenn.).
"Barbell collar" was invented by Austin T. Scott (Westerville, Ohio).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A barbell collar for securing weight plates to a barbell is disclosed. The barbell collar operates by rotating the housing assembly to lock or unlock the collar. The mechanism of operation involves a compression ring with a diameter that decreases around the barbell resulting in a tighter grip around the barbell."
The patent was filed on March 22, 2024, under Application No. 18/614,366.
