ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 5 -- United States Patent no. 12,274,740, issued on April 15, was assigned to Theriva Biologics Inc. (Rockville, Md.).

"Microbiome protection from oral antibiotics" was invented by Michael Kaleko (Rockville, Md.) and Sheila Connelly (Rockville, Md.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "This invention provides, in part, various compositions and methods for protecting the gastrointestinal microbiome from antibiotic disruption from orally administered antibiotics."

The patent was filed on Dec. 11, 2023, under Application No. 18/534,962.
