ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 18 -- United States Patent no. 12,473,875, issued on Nov. 18, was assigned to THE UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO (Tokyo).

"Rocket engine" was invented by Hiroyuki Koizumi (Tokyo), Mariko Akiyama (Tokyo), Keita Nishii (Tokyo), Masaya Murohara (Tokyo) and Yoshihito Mannami (Tokyo).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A rocket engine comprises a combustion chamber and a rocket nozzle that communicates with the combustion chamber. A metal wire supply device supplies a metal wire, which is fuel, to the combustion chamber. A water vapor generator supplies water vapor as an oxidant to the combustion chamber. An ignition device ignites the metal wire in a water vapor atmosphere."
