ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,416,025, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO (Chicago).

"System for the production of methane from CO 2" was invented by Laurens Mets (Chicago).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of converting CO2 gas produced during industrial processes comprising contacting methanogenic archaea with the CO2 gas under suitable conditions to produce methane."

The patent was filed on Dec. 9, 2020, under Application No. 17/116,629.
