ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,312,385, issued on May 27, was assigned to The UAB Research Foundation (Birmingham, Ala.).

"MSP nanopores and uses thereof" was invented by Michael Niederweis (Homewood, Ala.) and Mikhail Pavlenok (Birmingham, Ala.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein are mutant single-chain Mycobacterium smegmatis porin (Msp) and uses thereof."

The patent was filed on Nov. 21, 2023, under Application No. 18/516,332.
