ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,460,228, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia).
"Gene therapy for treating Wilson's disease" was invented by James M. Wilson (Philadelphia), Jenny Agnes Sidrane (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Lakshmanan Govindasamy (Philadelphia).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Compositions and regimens useful in treating Wilson's Disease are provided. The compositions include recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) with a transthyretin enhancer and promoter driving expression of a human ATP7B."
