"Fence device" was invented by William Peter Sutherland (Tyalgum, Australia).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed is a fence device for supporting a fencing wire. The fence device has a body having an inner surface defining an aperture through the body. The aperture can be for receiving the fencing wire. The inner surface can be at least partially convex towards the aperture."
