ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,310,384, issued on May 27, was assigned to The South Dakota Board of Regents, As Governing Board for South Dakota State University (S.D.).

"Microbial-based process for high quality protein concentrate" was invented by William Gibbons (Brookings, S.D.) and Michael L Brown (Volga, S.D.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention describes a bio-based process to produce high quality protein concentrate (HQPC) by converting plant derived celluloses into bioavailable protein via aerobic incubation, including the use of such HQPC so produced as a nutrient, including use as a fish meal replacement in aquaculture diets."
