ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,258,612, issued on March 25, was assigned to The Regents of the University of California (Oakland, Calif.).

"Random heteropolymers preserve protein function in foreign environments" was invented by Ting Xu (Berkeley, Calif.), Brian Panganiban (Berkeley, Calif.) and Tao Jiang (Berkeley, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Compositions comprise statistically random heteropolymers complexed with active proteins, and are formulated and used in stimuli-responsive materials and nanoreactors composed of proteins and synthetic materials."

The patent was filed on March 4, 2023, under Application No. 18/178,505.
