ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,383,422, issued on Aug. 12, was assigned to The General Hospital Corp. (Boston).

"Systems and methods for thermal treatment of tissue" was invented by Dieter Manstein (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Seyed Reza Monazami Miralipour (Cambridge, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Systems and methods for a medical device configured to provide cooling to a tissue region are provided. The medical device may be configured to noninvasively or invasively cool the tissue region to a predetermined operating temperature via a two-phase heat transfer process."
