ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,228,382, issued on Feb. 18, was assigned to The Boeing Co. (Arlington, Va.).

"Propulsionless hypersonic dual role munition" was invented by John K. Foster (St. Peters, Mo.), Ryan Binkholder (Webster Groves, Mo.) and Thaddeus Jakubowski Jr. (St. Charles, Mo.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A propulsionless munition configured to be launched from a hypersonic aerial includes a munition body that is free of any propulsion system for producing thrust.
