ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,453,189, issued on Oct. 21, was assigned to THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY (Acton, Australia).

"Solar cell fabrication" was invented by Di Yan (Bruce, Australia) and Andres Cuevas (Griffith, Australia).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention relates to a process for fabricating a solar cell. The process comprises depositing a layer of amorphous silicon on a substrate using physical vapour deposition, said substrate being a layer of a dielectric disposed on a silicon wafer. The amorphous silicon is then annealed so as to generate a layer of polycrystalline silicon on the substrate."
